Si i ra une autre beste de moult biau cors qui est apelée monoheros, qui a cors de cheval et piez d'olifant, teste de cerf et voiz clere et haute, et grant keue, autele comme truies les ont. Et a une corne en mi le front qui a iiii piez de longueur, droite et ague autresi comme I espié, et trenchant comme raseoir. Et quanqu'ele ataint par devant, deront tout et tranche par mi. Et vous di par verité que, se est prise par nul enging, si se laisse mourir par desdaing. Mais ele ne peut ester prise, fors que par une pucele virge que l'en li met en son devant par la ou ele doit passer, quo soit bien et cointement parée. Lors s'en vient la beste vers la pucele moult simplement, si s'endort en son gyron. Et lors la prent l'en en dormant.

Yet is ther another beste of moche fayr corsage or shape of body whiche is called monotheros, whiche hath the body of an hors and feet of an Olyfant, heed of an herte and voys clere and hye & a grete tayle. And hath but one horne whiche is in the myddle of his forhede, whiche is four foot longe, ryght & sharpe lyke a swerd and cuttyng lyke a Rasour. And alle that he atteyneth to fore hym and towcheth is broken and cutte. And for trouthe this beste is of suche condicion that, by what someuer engyne he is taken, of grete desdayn he suffreth to be slayn and deye. But he may not be taken but by a pure virgyne whiche is sette to fore hym where as he shal passe, the whiche muste be well and gentylly arayed. Thenne cometh the beste vnto the mayde moche symply, & slepeth in her lappe. And so he is taken slepyng.
